Hi! I am Mercedes,
I was born in New York , lived there until I was a teenager when my family moved to Puerto Rico and I eventually moved to Georgetown, Texas. I have been in Texas since 2005. I am a mother, a sister, an aunt, a daughter and a friend. I am bilingual in Spanish and English.
I love to laugh and have a good time with family and friends. I enjoy traveling, shopping and sightseeing. Anyone who knows me, knows I love anything that sparkles with lots of "Bling". I am a devoted Christian and am active in my local church as well as a home ministry group. A God given desire from the time of adolescence was what caused me to pursue the counseling ministry. Seeing hurting people in my work experiences made me want to reach out and help, which in turn led to my occupation.
I am very passionate about Christian Counseling. I know God can bring healing in every situation when we trust Him. Working with many abused and hurting people all of my life, it's always so rewarding to see restoration and healing come, both emotionally and mentally, which in turn can bring physical healing. In fact, Christian counseling through the National Christian Counseling Association model is 93% effective compared to only 8% effectiveness through secular counseling.I answered the call into the Ministry of Counseling and I am commissioned as a minister and certified by the National Christian Counseling Association, being held to the highest ethical standards in the field of counseling.
I have a bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Puerto Rico as well as all courses and practicums in a Doctorate of Clinical Psychology from the Catholic University of Puerto Rico. What is Pastoral Counseling? Pastoral counseling combines the therapeutic techniques in behavioral sciences with biblical principles. I do not serve as pastor for a church, but I do hold a license and credentialed as a minister.
My desire is to come alongside you, your spouse, your child or your family and lead you to find answers and relief to your problem or situation. My purpose is not to correct your values and beliefs, but guide you based on our own level of understanding of God's Word. And my goal is to guide you and your loved ones towards wholeness and restoration.
I base my ministry on the nine goals in Christian counseling by Dr. Richard G. Arno, National Christian Counseling Association.
-
To help the counselee learn who God created him to be.
-
To encourage the counselee to look to the Lord, and not to the counselor.
-
To help the counselee effect change in their attitude. Think of what is good and of good report (reference Philippians 4:8).
-
To help the counselee to: Return to their child-like faith (if they are Christian); Accept Jesus if they have not.
-
To encourage the counselee to accept God's plan for their life.
-
To help the counselee deal with the problem of selfishness.
-
To help the counselee deal with their sin or problem.
-
To help the counselee learn to stop trying themselves so God can change them as he sees fit.
-
To forgive.
